Everyone deals with a lot of files such as office documents, image files, audio records in everyday work. The most
frequent tasks are copying files and folders, opening them with different programs, sending files by email and so
on. A lot of these operations can be performed by using context (shortcut) menus. What does the context menu mean?
Right-clicking an object with Microsoft Windows 95 and later systems usually pops up a context menu. This menu
contains a list of commands that you can select to perform various actions on the object.
Because context (shortcut) menus are often used for file management, the shell provides a set of default commands,
such as
Cut and
Copy, that appears on the context menu for any file. When you right-clicks an
object, such as a file, that is displayed in Microsoft Windows Explorer or on the desktop, a context menu appears
with a list of commands. Then you can perform an action on the file, such as opening or deleting it, by selecting
the appropriate command.
Context Magic greatly extends the list of available features. It is a multi-purpose context (shortcut) menu
extension that allows to copy or move files to folders that are used most of all, such as
My Documents,
My Pictures or
My Music.
Also it can be used for opening files with programs that are not registered as default handlers for particular
file types. For instance, image viewer can be registered as default program for image files. But if you need to
edit some bitmap file, you have to launch an editing program to accomplish this task. It can be easily achieved
with
Context Magic. Just right-click a file, point to
Context Magic |
Open Selected File With,
and then click
Paint in the list of available programs.
Next useful feature of
Context Magic is an ability to send files by email. To do so, select one or several
files in the Windows Explorer, right-click them, point to
Context Magic |
Email Selected Files and
then select a recipient in the list.
Shortcuts is a quick way to start frequently used programs or open a file or folder without having to go to its
installed location. Context Magic allows to create shortcuts on the Desktop, Favorites or Start Menu in two mouse
clicks.
Last but not least are additional features provided by
Context Magic, such as copying file (folder) names
to Clipboard, opening command prompt for folders (like the
Command Prompt Here PowerToy does) and finding
objects that shortcuts point to.
As
Context Magic is a shell extension, it is always ready and available to use. To bring it up, just
right-click a file or folder in Windows Explorer and point to
Context Magic in the pop-up menu.
